There is more to Evolution than mere theory. The selection of the fittest is actually the underlying factor in the Story of Man, the fittest being the ones most suitable to eternal existence. Existence real enough to be eternal though, requires the exercise of free-will, for without it one is just a puppet manipulated by external forces. Concealing the Divine maintenance of the machinery called Nature is necessary for the expression of free-will, as too much intervention denies it, and too much freedom allows Nature such a strong hold that again free-will is restrained. The cultivation process is a delicate interplay between allowing Evil free rein and periodic pulling in of the reins. Different generations require different dosages: the higher their spiritual stature, the less affected they are by supernal events, for their whole existence is so metaphysical that the supernal is to them mundane.
The first ten generations from Creation were governed by almost the highest of Hashem's attributes ever allowed to reign, the attribute of patience, Arich Anpin, above even Atzilus. People lived long, were blessed in whatever they did, and no misfortune befell them. The few who took heed and enjoyed their fortune while curbing their desires, curbed the prosecution of the angel of Death called Ketz Kol Basar that came before Hashem to claim the destruction. The rest succumbed, and were swept up by the waters that turned from blessing to judgment and retribution. Although those remaining were much better than their predecessors, they still were not all worthy of being the forefathers of nations; some were curbed and censured while others were completely wiped out.
Ten generations later, again a pure descendant emerged from illustrious ancestry. From the righteous spiritual leaders Shem and Ever, who had established an academy for the study of Hashem's will, came forth an offspring who broke the mores of spiritual smallness, to seek out the Original Creator of all. One of three brothers who, like the three sons of Adam and of Noach, represented Kindness, Judgment and Compassion, Avraham was created in the attribute of Kindness, Chesed, and utilized it to it's utmost positive expression. This prime product was worth the efforts of the Supreme Gardener who so carefully cultivated his growth.
